Welcome to Footprints to Adventure, a family travel blog dedicated to helping families explore the world with confidence and on budget.
Footprints to Adventure was born from a simple belief: travelling with kids doesn’t have to be difficult, confusing, or expensive. Our approach is simple: real experiences, flexible plans, and letting kids be kids.
We’ve learned first-hand that travelling with kids isn’t always smooth sailing. We’ve made the mistakes, faced the challenges, and figured things out the hard way more times than we can count.
That’s why we share honest, experience-led advice that helps other families plan trips with more confidence and less overwhelm. Join our community and you’ll find family-friendly destination guides, fun activities for kids, honest reviews, and practical travel tips designed to make travelling with children feel less stressful and far more achievable.

Travel has always been part of our story. Growing up in Armed Forces families meant moving around, discovering new places, and immersing ourselves in different cultures was just normal life for us. When we became parents to Jacob in 2016, we didn’t want that sense of adventure to stop so we kept travelling.
Like many families, our travels paused in 2020. But now, with two young boys in tow, we’re back on the road and embracing a new chapter of family travel, exploring the UK, Europe, and beyond.
We want our children to experience different cultures, taste new foods, and hear new languages – and we believe other families can do the same. By sharing our stories we hope to inspire you to get out there and create your own family memories, whether that’s close to home or on the other side of the world.
Scroll down to meet each member of our family and follow along as we leave our own Footprints to Adventure.
Lou

Hey, I’m Lou and I take the bulk of managing Footprints to Adventure which means that if you’ve been browsing our posts then chances are they were written by me!
Growing up I lived in England, several places in Germany and Cyprus. We used this as a base to travel to Italy, France, Rhodes, Egypt and Austria – to name a few! Greece is my all time favourite destination, I just LOVE everything about Greece. The people are welcoming, there’s so much history and the food … need I say more!
Dream Destination: I don’t have one dream destination, I have about 5 but have managed to narrow it down to three. I want to sail through the Phang Nga Bay in Thailand, camp in Wadi Rum in Jordan and do a road trip from Texas to California. Stay tuned because we’re ticking one of these off in 2026!
Luke

Hi, I’m Luke and growing up I spent 14 years living in Germany. I didn’t travel a lot as a kid so I’m a bit of a late bloomer (compared to Lou) from a travel perspective but I really caught the bug when me and Lou travelled to Australia in our late teens.
I have a passion for trying new things and experiencing as much as possible. Lou’s the one with all the travel planning tips, I just like being a bit spontaneous and my idea of travel planning is watching Youtube videos on all my favourite destinations! My favourite holiday was Morocco and am looking forward to taking the boys there next year.
Dream Destination: If you know me you won’t be surprised that my dream destinations are animal focussed. I can’t wait to travel to Tanzania to do a safari and explore the rainforests of Borneo.
Jacob

Jacob is our eldest and already has the travel bug. He loves travelling and gets excited about learning all of the sights, language and history of the places we travel to. He’s also really good at taking pictures so he’s also a photographer for Footprints to Adventure and you’ll find many of the photos he’s taken on our site.
His favourite holiday was New York, he loved visiting the US and can’t wait to go back. Despite having a fear of heights he’s quite an adventurer and loves nothing more than a trip to a theme park to go on all the fast rides.
Dream destination: Much like me, Jacob has quite the bucket list when it comes to travel! Trying to narrow it down to a couple of dream destinations but he decided upon Texas, Japan and Indonesia to visit the Komodo Dragon National Park.
Finley

Finley is the baby of the family and is mostly along for the ride when it comes to choosing where we travel and what we do when there! He’s starting to understand what the word holiday means though and the travel bug is growing as he gets older.
His all time favourite destination is Disneyland Paris for the music and parades but also gets a love for animals from Luke so always gets excited when we’re going anywhere with a zoo, farm or sanctuary.
Dream destination: Finley is low maintenance, he just loves being on holiday and is happy anywhere with a slide or a beach!
Ben

Ben is our dog. He’s nearly three years old and is a mix between a Border Collie and Jack Russel so he has the energy to match two young boys! Sadly for Ben he can’t come on all of our travels with us but when we travel in the UK we bring him along for the ride.
Dream destination: In true Border Collie fashion Ben loves anywhere with no cats, space to run and plenty of different things for him to smell and pee on!
